What is the SchoolPlace Big 5?
SchoolPlace Big 5 is a questionnaire that provides students with an understanding of their strengths to help them focus their energy in a direction that will assist them to achieve success throughout their life and career. We understand, as parents and young professionals, that the number of choices and opportunities available to young people today is vast, and can be overwhelming. We would like the opportunity to discuss careers with your student(s)!
What services are associated with Schoolplace Big 5?
SchoolPlace Big 5 can be used in workshops to assist juniors and seniors with their future career choices. In addition, it can be used as a teambuilding exercise in established project groups, teams, and organizations to enhance the quality of role selection and working relationships between students. The SchoolPlace report is offered in several different forms:
✓ SchoolPlace Big 5 Profile
This assessment draws out preferences and traits in an individual. The results illustrate their personality as characterized by five super-traits and twenty-four sub-traits. The super-traits include: Need for Stability (the degree to which we respond to stress), Extraversion (the degree to which we enjoy sensory bombardment), Originality (the degree to which we are open to change), Accommodation (the degree to which we defer to others), and Consolidation (the degree to which we are driven to achieve).
✓ The Career Guider
The Career Planning Analysis uses the Big 5 Profile results to help students identify which attributes they want a career to provide. It includes six career development models which examine preferred job focus, content, roles, styles, abilities and traits. It then supplies a sampling of jobs that offer these chosen qualities, and continues with a matrix, summarizing all of this data.
✓ The Leader
The Leadership Analysis is a comprehensive guide of the most popular leadership models paired with the CentACS Five Factor model. It describes 3 leadership behaviors; delegation, escalation of commitment, and sound vs. speedy decision making, and uses the participant’s Big 5 scores to depict his/her natural talent for these qualities. This is followed by 3 leadership models: The Furnham Management Study, The SEA Leadership Model, and Situational Leadership.
✓ The Learner
The Learning Style Analysis shows the degree to which each Big 5 score provides natural energy for learning and learning-related behaviors such as: distractions, performance under autonomous conditions, practice, safety, The SEA Leadership model, and team roles for cooperative learning. It also describes 2 well-known learning style models (Academic Performance Goals, and Social Learning Styles) and demonstrates where each student’s natural preferences fall within those models.
How is SchoolPlace helpful?
SchoolPlace provides young people with a process to help them turn their natural preferences (methods of working that energize/motivate them) into an action plan to help them discover a job that will lead them to success. SchoolPlace brings focus to career paths.
How do I take the SchoolPlace Big 5?
An electronic link and set of instructions will be sent to you via e-mail. These instructions will lead you through a questionnaire that will take between 12 and 20 minutes to complete. You will be asked questions about your natural preferences (eg. ‘Do you prefer to work in a formal or an informal environment?’). It is important to complete this assessment when you are free from distractions, so that you are able to focus on the questions. It is also important to be candid about your likes and dislikes in order to attain the truest sense of your preferences.
