Executive Coaching

What is the purpose of Executive Coaching?

Executive Coaching is used to assist an individual as they develop and enhance their abilities in the roles they manage. The purpose is tailored to each individual according to the goals and expectations discussed during the initial session.

Some examples of the purpose of Executive Coaching are:

  1. to strengthen the ability to lead, develop and manage others
  2. to strengthen ‘presence’ with peers
  3. to develop ways to polish and leverage natural abilities
  4. to prepare an individual for additional responsibilities
  5. to enhance the ability to lead, manage and influence
  6. to  strengthen the ability to communicate well across a range of situations
  7. to know when to be strategic or when to manage the details
  8. to become a better coach for direct reports
  9. to develop strategies to understand and work with difficult personalities
  10. to learn to leverage strengths and manage challenges

What is the Executive Coaching process?

The basic coaching relationship has approximately 10 sessions over 6 months. The first session will include the participant’s supervisor and expectations for the program will be identified.

The first phase consists of the completion of a number of assessment tools. At each session the focus will be on one assessment which will be used to direct discussion between the coach and participant. The data is linked with the clients’ goals helping to determine what strengths to apply, what hurdles to deal with and how. Each session uses active problem-solving.

A “process check” is scheduled approximately half way through the program. The supervisor is brought back in and the participant is given the opportunity to explain what he/she has gained from the assessments, how he/she has used the information and the results. The expectations are then revisited and any revisions or additions are made.

The final phase consists of a development plan that is created to outline specific goals, action steps and a timeline for completion. The program is completed by again revisiting the expectations with the participant and supervisor in order to determine next steps.

What are the benefits of Executive Coaching?

Executive Coaching will help an individual to recognize their core strengths, allow them to explore the traits that permit them to be most effective and identify how to use those characteristics to their highest potential in the roles they manage. Acquisition of this knowledge leads to the discovery of what energizes and motivates them at their center. Then they will be able to utilize this energy to maximize their performance.
